To celebrate the end of the semester and foster some healthy inter-union competition, we will be hosting a Kickball game on May 18th at McCarren Park at P.O. Gilroy Field from 6 PM until late. We are inviting other unions so it’s a great opportunity to meet other academic workers in the NYC area! We will also have a grill and refreshments, so if you don’t want to play but do want to hang out, please come! RSVP here.
Finally, we are horrified about the NYPD being called to arrest students, staff, and faculty twice in a span of less than 2 weeks. During the first instance on April 22nd, there was even a student journalist and a legal observer who were maced by the police. In the second instance on May 3rd, the police arrested sleeping students at 6 AM without notice, but not before alerting media personnel who were there notified to be there at 5:30 AM. The NYPD has a well-documented history of brutal treatment of people of color in particular and for Linda Mills and her administration to call the NYPD to our campus not once, but twice, is unconscionable.
We encourage you to send this letter to the administration written by CLAWS (NYU’s Coalition for Labor Action by Workers and Students) to ensure our workplace safety and academic freedom.
