Hope the Fall semester is off to a smooth start. As we near the one-year mark since we approached President Mills seeking a fair process to establish recognition of our union, we have continued to gain and build support from researchers across the university. Still, NYU has refused to meet with us and continues to challenge our union’s legitimacy, including a recent memo to the National Labor Relations Board in which they reiterated their argument that our case should be dismissed altogether. But we know that researchers at NYU want and need a union, and we are all committed to making that happen.
In order to show NYU just how much support there is for this union, we have written a follow-up open letter to President Mills, calling on her to meet with us in good faith and agree to a neutrality agreement so we can hold an election. Over 2,800 researchers have signed authorization cards stating their support for the formation of our union (including you, if you are receiving this email). Will you now add your name to this open letter and share it with 2-3 colleagues? The stronger our show of support, the more likely it is that the NYU administration will finally meet with us and the sooner we can begin collectively bargaining for a fair contract to win better pay, benefits, and worker rights for us all.
Please sign here! Names will not be made public until a majority of researchers have signed.
Our first General Meeting of the Fall semester is tomorrow, September 19th, 6pm at the Grossman Campus, in the Translational Research Building Room 717. We will be disseminating some posters for people to stick up in their buildings. We need all hands on deck the next few weeks to get as many signatures on our letter as possible. We hope you will join us!
In Solidarity,
NYU Researchers United-UAW
